Established in 2017, 916 Growth Gigs is the name under which Brianna Carmel promotes the DIY shows they book in the Sacramento-area.
Carmel decided to start booking their own shows while volunteering to work door at local independent music venue Cafe Colonial during its early days, after seeing that the majority of DIY shows being booked around town were some variety of hardcore, punk, and/or metal. They decided that it was important to them to showcase the variety of the Sacramento music scene.
And so, Carmel started booking a variety of local musicians and bands over the years, many of them playing together on eclectic lineups; from Spanglish-speaking punk rock bands, to gothic industrial acts, to folk punk artists. They’ve also been known to book many touring acts, such as Pacing (San Jose, CA), Local News Legend (PA), and more.
As of 2023, 916GG has been expanded to Bandcamp, with the goal of releasing anywhere from 1 to 3 compilation albums per year, featuring various themes with a variety of DIY bands and artists, local and non-local alike.
